Taizé

Taizé services are usually held in the evening at Christchurch on the fifth Sunday of the month. (See Services to check the date).

Music and Worship

We believe that through Taizé Worship, both as individuals and as the gathered Body of Christ, we take time to be in the presence of our Risen Lord. We sing his praises, hear his Word, and are transformed by the power of his Holy Spirit.

Central to our worship are the Taizé chants. The music emphasises simple phrases, usually lines from Psalms or other pieces of Scripture, repeated and sometimes also sung in canon. The repetition is intended to aid meditation and prayer. Much of the earlier Taizé community music was conceived and composed by Jacques Berthier. Our services are very relaxed with lots of time and space for meditation and prayer.

The type of music and chanting used in Taizé can be found at the International Taizé Site. Here you will also find details about the Taizé movement.
