Good Friday Pray at 3pm

On Thursday evenings the whole country is encouraged to stop and applaud the NHS front line workers at 8pm. Inspired by this initiative, Christians are planning to pray at 3pm on Friday for God to intervene in this pandemic.

At 3pm on Good Friday, Jesus said, ‘It is finished’ from the cross. Christians across the country are encouraged to step out in front of their homes and pray for Covid-19 to end.

You may like to use this prayer:

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

John 3: 16,17

Lord God,
As we remember now Jesus’ death
at the completion of his life’s work,
we give thanks for his life of obedience and willingness
to suffer such cruel agonies for our sakes.

We come in the name of Jesus to ask for your love and mercy for your world.
So many have suffered and are suffering from COVID-19 and as a result of the virus in so many ways.
Our hearts ache with sadness for those we know and for the many thousands we don’t.
But we know you, Father, because of your Son.

We pray that you will bring an end to the COVID-19 pandemic so that your name may be glorified through the work of your Son.
We come to you, our refuge and strength in this time of trouble.
You alone will bring this pandemic to an end.
You alone will be exalted among the nations of the world.
You alone will be exalted in all the earth.

May your kingdom come,
your will be done
on earth as in heaven.
For the kingdom,
the power
and the glory are yours,
now and forever.

In the name of Jesus, our Lord and our Saviour, who gave his life that we may have life.
